DRIVING POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY
What We Do
THE PHOTOGRAPHIC VOICE HELPS YOUNG PEOPLE DEVELOP NEW SKILLS OF SELF EXPRESSION AND HELP TACKLE THE SOCIAL ISSUES WHICH THEY FACE EACH DAY.
THE PHOTOGRAPHIC VOICE TEACHES THEM TECHNIQUES TO HELP THEM NOT ONLY DOCUMENT THEIR LIVES AND AREAS THEY LIVE IN, BUT TO ALSO TO GIVE A VOICE TO CONVEY A DIFFERENT MESSAGE, ONE OF HOPE AND POSITIVITY IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS WILL HELP THEM SEE A DIFFERENT FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES AND INFLUENCE THEIR DECISIONS, AND HELP BUILD THEIR SELF ESTEEM, WELL BEING AND SELF WORTH.
"Having attended the workshops with The Photographic Voice I now not only have an insight into photography, but enjoyed expressing myself through the use of pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I have also been inspired by the two photographers that guided us through the different stages of the workshops. I definitely feel I have gained confidence and also feel more motivated. I would definitely like to get involved in future workshops as a pier mentor”
Karl
The Bigger Picture Project empowers young people to communicate and document visually ideas, which are barriers to them engaging in education and employment. Lack of opportunities in areas of high unemployment, social and economic deprivation could see some people using destructive coping mechanisms such as alcohol and drug misuse, self harming, family abuse and crime. Participants who attend the workshops will gain confidence, learn new transferable skills and be introduced to peer support. This can help alleviate social isolation and will have a positive effect of health, wellbeing, confidence and self esteem. Through the use of photography participants will be able to pictorially express their thoughts and views.

“I have always found it hard talking about what i do as a photographer and what inspires my work. Landscape photography is the one place where I feel I can connect with the earth and all her glory. Whether I’m photographing storms or r weathered rock formations, sunsets or the roughness of a raging sea, I feel connected to what I am photographing and to capture the beauty of nature is exhilarating"
